• HOPE

Hope is the light that guides us through life’s darkest moments. It provides the belief that no matter how challenging our circumstances, there is always a brighter tomorrow waiting ahead. From Hope flows Joy...

PRISON MINISTRY

Prison Ministry – Chains Can’t Stop Change.

Behind the walls, behind the bars—there is still purpose. At Mental Health Ministries, we believe that God’s grace reaches into the darkest places. Our prison ministry is a lifeline to those often forgotten, bringing messages of faith, healing, and transformation to inmates who are ready for a second chance.

We’re not just dropping off pamphlets. We’re delivering Hope, Joy, Peace—through both non-faith based and Christian-based mental health classes, anxiety and fear worksheets, scripture studies, declarations of healing, and the consistent reminder that their life still matters.

Changed by Hope

Changed by Hope

My name is Joey L. I am an inmate in the Department of Corrections. I have struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues since middle school, leading to a suicide attempt at 17 and time in a mental hospital. I came to prison a couple of years later, was out for 32 days, and then returned to prison for more serious offenses. I have now been incarcerated for 31 years.

Thankfully, I have been free from addiction since May 2003 when our Heavenly Father changed my life. I still struggle with anger and pride, which led me to take the Switch On Your Brain class taught by Mental Health Ministries. The most impactful part was when Mrs. Shauna taught us how to meditate on something positive instead of on toxic thinking. I was able to apply this and redirect my thoughts to God’s goodness which brought me peace in situations that used to upset me.

Overcoming Negative Thinking

Overcoming Negative Thinking

My name is Darrell O. I am an inmate in the Department of Corrections. Taking the Switch On Your Brain class, led by Mental Health Ministries, really helps to overcome negative thoughts and actions. The ‘active reaches’, mental and physical, help to override the negative thoughts and actions instead of instantly reacting to them.

With continual practice, these skills have changed how I think and react. Since applying them, I’ve noticed significantly less anger, stress, and negative inner dialogues that used to last for days or weeks.

Redefining My Purpose

Redefining My Purpose

My name is Joshua L. I have been incarcerated for over 16 years. I have completed dozens of behavioral classes, life skills classes, and religious programs, but none taught me what I learned in the Switch On Your Brain class taught by Mental Health Ministries. I realized that I don’t have to live with destructive thoughts and that my identity is not tied to my past mistakes or previous service.

With guidance from Mrs. Stebler and Mr. Manuel, I’ve learned to reframe my thoughts and change my responses to situations. While I’m still on the journey, this course has helped me to start the process of forgiving myself which has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do and is allowing me to move toward peace and purpose.
